Indeed, the network has pulled out all the stops and among the new shows viewers can expect are River Monsters, about an extreme fisherman who tracks down some of the worlds largest, strangest and most dangerous predatory fish; Fatal Attractions featuring pet owners who insist on rearing exotic and dangerous wild animals (despite having been viciously attacked), Storm Chasers who devote their lives to tracking tornadoes and added extreme weather phenomenons, and Prison Wives that highlights unconventional love stories of men and women who remain devoted to their spouses serving time in prison.
This years press tour was especially meaningful for Discovery as the channel is celebrating its 25th anniversary. There was an anniversary party (attended by many of Discoverys talents such as LA Inks Kat Von Dee, American Choppers Paul Teutul Sr and MythBusters Grant Imahara, Kari Byron and Tory Belleci.) There were rumours that Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks would make an appearance (they were at the HBO press event at the same venue) but with the free flow of alcohol and the delicious southern barbecue spread, few people actually took apprehension of their presence.
In his brief opening remarks at the start of the press tour, head of programming for Discovery Channel, Peter Liguori, said that while actuality able to bless 25 years of successful programming was gratifying, Discovery was already looking forward, to providing the best for its viewers for the next 25 years.
and ahead of the curve, he said. I am excited that were going all out . But, really, 3D technology is outstanding and back you look at what Discovery does in agreement of marrying great production values with storytelling, its clear we have to participate in this (3D revolution) and its got to be an aggressive initiative.
Fatal Attractions gets inside the minds of people who own venomous reptiles, deadly big cats and chimpanzees as we try to understand what drives their obsessions and action a cautionary tale. A cogent number of these pets have the potential to severely injure or annihilate their owners, neighbours or family. In its brief about the programme, Animal Planet states: Millions of exotic animals are brought to the United States in any accustomed year.
