But FICO, which had $605 million in revenue last year, is not directly regulated by any government agency and its credit rating formulas are secret. Despite a name that vaguely sounds like it must be federal something-or-other, FICO actually stands for Fair Isaac Corp., a Minneapolis company that creates proprietary mathematical algorithms used to calculate consumer credit scores.

and Experian Plcthe three major credit bureausvacuum up information on customers payment histories with banks, retailers, credit cards, utility companies, landlords, mortgage loans, student loans, phone bills, and even parking tickets.Think of it this way: If credit scores were chili, FICO would write various recipes then sell them to the credit bureaus, which gather the raw ingredients themselves. TransUnion Corp., Equifax Inc.

We support the CFPBs study of credit scores and believe it will inevitably conclude that consumers are best served by focusing less on the different types of consumer credit scores available, and more on the underlying document that is used to generate a scorethe credit reportand how it can be an empowering tool for consumers, Experian said in a statement.

FICO is trying to build the best predictive model they can, said Tom Quinn, FICOs former vice president of scoring who now works for the consumer education website Credit.com. They let the data tell them whats fair.. If the data predicts a different pattern, between people with different kinds of debt, then that would be picked up eventually.

According to Hoovers Inc., a clearinghouse for company profiles and industry information, the newest FICO formula reduces penalties for multiple accounts and is more lenient on occasional late payments, which don’t necessarily indicate a poor credit risk. Additionally, authorized credit card users (such as teenagers on a parent’s account) no longer benefit from activities of the account owners, which prevents artificial score inflation..

Another concern of consumer groups: Credit bureaus have little, if any, financial incentive to treat consumers fairly. That means the customer for the credit bureaus is the creditor, not the consumer, critics say. Before extending credit to a consumer, an auto dealer or a landlord buys the customers credit score from one of the three big credit bureaus to assess the risk of default.

If a company like FICO were to reveal the coding for the model, then [consumers] could potentially use that to manipulate their score for short-term benefit The creditor will lose confidence in the tool and ultimately raise the cost of credit for everyone.. There are years and years and years of intellectual property that have been built into these scores and [companies] should have a right to have that protected, Quinn said.

Host Michel Martin discusses the case of columnist Mary Mitchell. A court ruled Friday that the city of Chicago should have 111 African-American firefighters and pay damages for thousands of people who were denied employment. The legal battle began after the applicant has passed an examination of 1,995 jobs to become firefighters. The petitioners argue that the test does not measure the ability to be a firefighter and is more likely than whites to be hired.

But first, let's go to Chicago, where he planned the former head of White House, Rahm Emanuel today sworn in as new mayor of the city. He inherited a budget deficit just be worse. A recent federal court ruling ordered the city to pay $ 30 million in damages to 6,000 African Americans who had been adopted more jobs as firefighters in the city.

He is with us now in line with its office in Chicago. We wanted to better understand the long history of this case, which has found its way to the Supreme Court last year. So we met with Chicago Sun-Times Mary Mitchell, who has followed this case very closely over the years. Maria Mitchell, thank you very much for being with us again.

MITCHELL: Sure. They thought something was wrong with the test and not enough potential African-American firefighters had qualified in the pool. As Chicago is no different from many other cities, there was some concern that the tests were unfair and do not measure the ability of a firefighter to do the job.

It turns out that only 11 percent of African-American, scored 89 or more. But then, officials have said that scored above this number, in passing, that risking more than 1800 that scored 89 or more. What the city say that? What was your response?. And the nominees for the black firefighters argued there was no evidence that the outcome had to do with firepower. Martin: Now, the judgments of a trial, as we said, since 1995. E 'was designed to measure the ability to fight the fire and after the test, marking, you know, 64 years or less is considered unqualified.

My brother was a firefighter in New York. MARTIN: This is a very emotional issue in many cities and I, in the spirit of full disclosure, I will talk to people I do not remember, my father was a firefighter in New York. And the whole question of who will be coveted in these jobs was very difficult and emotional for many cities and many will recall, the Supreme Court case over years ago Hartford Fire Department, when the white firefighters who refused to work reported being victims of discrimination.

But the 6,000 people who have been overlooked, I am very happy that their eyes, justice has been done. Mitchell: Well, 15 years is a long wait for justice. And firefighters are still in Chicago, who have other jobs, left in their lives, they really are, you know, the potential for fire, I'm very excited about the idea of perhaps its name chosen at random from the 111 because city has to hire 111.

But I think the lesson in this regard, one important lesson is that this case has been brought forward and people do not give up. Unfortunately for Chicago, which will come with a lot of money, millions of dollars, 30 million dollars when you have a budget deficit.

logo online game from Blizzard, World of Warcraft, players have paid about 600,000 last quarter, although the question of its expansion packs the most successful yet. Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said the players are bombarded by content developers to more quickly than expected.

For the uninitiated, World of Warcraft is the most profitable game in history, with 11.4 million current subscribers who pay up to $ 15 per month for the privilege of competing in a world of paper under a lot of fantastic monsters, a man in pantyhose, sexy and princesses. It began in 2004 and remains strong – eh, almost as strong. I agree with that, Mike.

Not only that, but the struggle against the bosses have always been better than the game has evolved to the point where you are jumping or spinning laser pick up powerful weapons and shields of the earth to fight one of the most powerful magi of the Warcraft universe. There were more raid content just to look to the future would Nefarian, an old enemy of the first version of Blizzard, which was a blast to fall. The problem, however, was that the natural progression to the next step is even harder to meetings from 10 to 25 were closed by this stage ridiculously hard.

Groups gathered by the "research group" tool to get the amount of bonus damage and healing they can do and the challenge was attenuated significantly. But even this does not really get rid of bad taste in the mouth and make me sign for the game again. It is very unfortunate because I thought the last enlargement as a whole has been spectacular and has a very different purpose for new players do not support old. Blizzard has made for a number of changes to make it less painful stage of the game.

When it comes to attracting visitors, Google is still a far more important source of traffic for major news websites than social media, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center, but Facebook in particular is climbing in importance, and has already become a significant driver of pageviews for some sites. Among its other findings, the study also reinforces how much work even the leading news websites still have to do when it comes to building engagement with their readers and convincing them to stick around once they arrive at their news pages.

The survey results combined the traffic from both Google’s main search pages and from Google News. The Pew study, a partnership with online-survey company Nielsen that tracked how users came to the major news websites and where they went after they left, shows Google still accounts for about 30 percent of the visitors to most of the 24 sites surveyed, on average. For 17 of those — including CNN, , ABC News and The Huffington Post — it’s the leading source of visitors, and for the others in the study, it was the second highest source.

The Huffington Post was also one of the first to make recommendations based on what readers’ social graphs were reading, something other sites such as the have begun doing to a lesser extent. That isn’t surprising, given the company’s early embrace of Facebook’s “open graph” plugins and other features. The Huffington Post is by far the most influenced by Facebook, which accounts for about five percent of its traffic. The site implemented a substantial integration of Facebook profiles and “likes” after the social network launched those features, and this drove not only pageviews but also a dramatic increase in comments from Facebook users.

Although it’s worth noting this likely underestimates Twitter’s influence — since many users don’t go to the Twitter website but use mobile apps and other services — the data will likely reinforce for some publishers the idea that Facebook is the only thing they need to worry about — something Gawker owner Nick Denton put into words when he redesigned his network of blogs and removed the Twitter links, saying “only Facebook matters.”. The service only showed up as a referring source for nine of the 24 sites surveyed, and for most of those, it accounted for only about one percent or less of the visits. While Facebook is increasing in importance, the Pew study found that for the major news sites it looked at, Twitter still isn’t a large driver of visits.

The Pew study also confirmed some other assumptions about online news readers, including the fact that they don’t click on ads. Nielsen tracks any link that is clicked more than five times, and from any advertisement on any of the sites surveyed managed to clear that bar in the nine months the survey was running. This reinforces how little mainstream media sites can rely on advertising, and helps explain why so many are experimenting with paywalls and signing up for Apple’s iPad subscription plans (which Conde Nast and Hearst have just embraced).

One of the results that stood out from the survey for me, however, was the number of repeat visits and time spent by visitors for some of the main sites that Pew looked at. The Pew Center admitted there is controversy over how unique visitors and repeat visits are counted, but those are still extremely low numbers by any measure. In some cases, the leading news sites are only getting one or two repeat visits a month — and remember these are daily news sites that should theoretically be attracting people multiple days a week, if not multiple times a day.

“For News Sites, Google Is the Past and Facebook Is the Future” — This title is a bit misleading. Most people reading the news on the internet are doing so from work and most companies block social sites such as facebook. Google News is still the best way to link to news articles….

I agree that it is shifting over to facebook but I’m not sure I totally agree that it will become huge. The real exciting bit is what is happening on sites themselves as the more or less get taken over by the various strands of Facebook!. Look at all the big publishers and they are using Facebook alright but they are just using it to push out content and nothing else.

But, they are rebounding in their online technology game, by diversifying into online music distribution. Can you say $ gUaP $ over top of long $ gUaPeY $ ? And, can you also say —> Taadow ?! =). It was quite sad to read today this morning that Google has to end that part of it’s online news service.

Sites like longreads and givemesomething to read is the new way in which users can seek long from news content. With this service I have become loyal to these magazine publications and I am considering subscribing to these publication once I decide upon an effective tablet reader device. Prior to this I had no exposure to newyorker, newyork magazine, atlantic monthly and vanity fair.

The finance and business centers of the future may not be the traditional capitals of global dominance, according to a new report released today by PwC and the Partnership for New York City. The fourth edition of shows that in a more virtual and mobile world, well-rounded cities with balanced economies and strong quality of life offer an attractive alternative: resilience during downturns and allure for skilled people who will build the future.

But it is followed closely in the top five by Toronto, San Francisco, Stockholm and Sydney — cities more notable for quality of life and balance than global business dominance. New York leads the 2011 study, which analyzes and ranks how 26 global centers of finance, business and culture perform across 10 key indicators.

Modern cities are less dependent on geography and historic connections and more reliant on holistic approaches to attracting and keeping creative minds and cutting-edge businesses that will build the future with fresh eyes. While these cities cannot match the size or economic clout of longstanding commercial hubs like London, New York, Paris or Tokyo, their performance highlights a changing global dynamic.

New York, despite finishing first, hardly dominates. The traditional alpha cities — London, number six this year and first in economic clout, Paris, number eight overall and first in transportation and infrastructure, and Tokyo, number 14 overall — retain their power and allure. It leads because of balanced performance across the indicators, likely a key to the city’s continued economic resilience, and outstanding performance in measures of intellectual capital, lifestyle assets and technology readiness. But they do not congregate at the top as might reflexively be assumed based on recent history.

Size is no longer a leading predictor of influence. "Changes in communications, education and knowledge-sharing, transportation and urban migration are transforming world dynamics," said Bob Moritz, US Chairman and Senior Partner of PwC. "Cities that want to thrive need to adapt to these changes. The success of cities such as Toronto, San Francisco, Stockholm and Sydney sends a clear signal that holistic balance makes a real difference.".

The scoring methodology was developed to ensure transparency and simplicity for readers, as well as comparability across cities. In some cases when verifiable and consistent city information was not available, national data was used as a proxy. The data was collected during the second and third quarters of 2010. Cities of Opportunity is based on publicly available data, using three main sources: global multilateral development organizations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund; national statistics organizations, such as National Statistics in the UK and the Census Bureau in the US; and commercial data providers. Care has been taken to ensure that, where used, national data closely reflects the city. In the majority of cases, the data used refers to 2009 and 2010.

Partnership companies account for nearly 7 million American jobs and contribute over $740 billion to the national GDP. Through the New York City Investment Fund, the Partnership contributes directly to projects that create jobs, improve economically distressed communities and stimulate new business creation. The Partnership for New York City’s (www.pfnyc.org) mission is to engage the business community in efforts to advance the economy of New York City and maintain the city’s position as the center of world commerce, finance and innovation.

One thing I almost never see, is that Canada becomes toxic securities. likeReply. Canada has always had a sound financial system and overall life experience. I would say that investing their resources and have a solid base.

We are investing heavily in these changes. The global advertising market is estimated at around $475 billion / year with only 12% of this online and measurable. (some data sources have this estimate much higher.) We believe that the structural industry changes will continue to create big opportunities for technology firms that enable the changes in media consumption for television, radio, inbound calls, online & social media. So I’ve spent the last few years checking out companies that are trying to solve for this problem.

I decided to look up one branded company in the chocolate segment to get a sense for the magnitude of spend online. Just $460,000 of this is spend on online display ads (0.1% for those without a calculator handy). Hershey’s chocolates spends about $365 million in advertising per year. So people will spend money online to get you to sign up for credit cards or Netflix but not to change your laundry detergent.

I know that any time ads are mentioned it makes the blood boil on any self respecting technologist the same way it did when HotWire ran their first ad in 1994 and the way it made Google’s blood boil when Overture launched the sponsored search category. The reality is that advertising has got to become more integrated with content in order to drive efficacy.

You have to find a way to get your audience to actually “engage” with the content in the way that Solve Media is doing, in the way that in-game advertising works for video games or the way that celebrity endorsements work. I believe that “integrated advertising” is one of the more effective types of advertising out there.

It’s why I still believe passionate in companies like Adly (I’m an investor) who have created ways for celebrities to integrate endorsements “in stream” in a Twitter feed. If you’re interested here is my case. In the stream. Oh, sacred cow. Yes. I advocated strongly for this 18 months ago and my belief system is as ardent as it was back then. Integrated with where our eyes & attention are.

And it is already an accepted fact that in many cases the ads & images are blended as any lady who reads Cosmo or Vogue will tell you. Another areas that I’ve been really focused on over the past 2 years is “in-image ads” as another form of integrated media. When you think about the eye-tracking we know that people care about the story and the images. The big splashy image ads is part of their reading experience.

It’s integrated. Text is what we’re reading. Text is shown to deliver higher CTRs than banners. Vibrant Media & Kontera have both built large and fast-growing businesses around text-based advertising and there are new entrants doing it in new ways like SkimLinks. Vibrant has a reach of 250 million uniques, making in the 12th largest ad-focused property online and has 3rd-party verified studies suggesting up to 50% increase in brand lift following their in-text ads (I’m not an investor in any of these companies).

Some of the interactive experiences I’ve seen in recent demos are simply mind boggling and are starting to form new opinions in my head about how we will consume big screen TV in the future (I’ll save that for a future post). There is a whole industry being spawned in the Internet video world and especially in the integration of devices (second screen TVs) and the TV experience.

This has proved far more effective than small crappy banners at the bottom of each screen. An obvious example of integrated media would be the new Rio Angry Birds version. It’s actually very cool. There are increasingly incentivized offers to get more powerful swords & shields in battle games. The games industry has massively changed over the past several years to more of an integrated advertising / purchasing media with the growth of virtual goods and ads.

Yet the other tension between ad-free products that cost more versus ad-supported models have a clear winner: ads. There will always be a tension between advertising wanting to reach audiences through whatever means they can to capture their attention and help them discover new products and consumers who claim a strong preference for ad-free products. On products where I’ve seen data the “ad free” versions have converted at 4-6% of the user base at maximum.

What at first appeared to be a great success after Troopergate the audience was very warm in a magazine has led to unexpected and disastrous consequences. But ultimately, the errors in the discharge of demonstrated success could not. There was the "Arkansas Project, an effort of $ 2,400,000, funded by philanthropist Richard Mellon Scaife right, to find irregularities in the past of Clinton, which eventually led to the investigation of the spectators. And there was the fall Tyrrell , a talented debater who longed for acceptance into the world of Washington, but allowed his obsession with Clinton to ensure that it would become increasingly distant from this world. It was the financial ruin caused by the inability of the magazine almost naive to manage their new wealth. How it happened is the story of a magazine that was very, very good for most of his life was one of the few ways that the writers of the first order conservative, and most prominent conservative writer today contributed one time or another, but in 1990, lost contact with what he had done. For a moment, the men who led the American Spectator, said he could transcend the limits of movement, small, small budget and limited influence on the players defining elite journals of this type. Some conservatives Tyrrell was known about them has become an opposition brand of self-destructive, Bill Clinton, and his desire to overcome the office of the president who ended up hurting even more.

From the beginning, saw the issue as part of a movement, something that could one day become a political force in college and beyond. But Tyrrell wanted to be more of a writer and editor. John Von Kannon and Ron Burr, the friends who served at different times, as editor of the magazine, Tyrrell supported conservative candidates for office students organized events for conservative speakers (Buckley, a god in his entourage, was about few visits), and tried to create a more conservative culture that will ultimately change the direction of the university. His method of choice has made a mockery of the gravity model on the right and appropriate methods to create a right kind of nonsense style agitprop.

Tyrrell has been struggling with a passage that was written when the phone rang and a woman told the president speak. Tyrrell, then wrote about receiving a call from Reagan in August 1982. "Literature can be deferred for state affairs." As he spoke, Tyrrell suggested that Reagan has invited some "intellectuals who think" lunch at the White House to help "create an anti-conservative political culture.." Tyrrell thought someone was making fun of him until "the old charmer has come on line, satisfy my irritability as effectively as my evening martini," he writes.

But even if the magazine was, according to Tyrrell is concerned, the autopilot, was encouraged by the spirit which had taken first to the audience still seemed remarkable even when Tyrrellian Tyrrell had little to do with that. They were even happier when Shawcross also presented a detailed defense of his thesis. In 1981, publishers have been particularly proud of e-Tyrrell has been involved in detailed rebuttal the assistance of former National Security Council with Peter Rodman is William Shawcross Sideshow: Kissinger, Nixon and the Destruction of Cambodia. In early 1980, he published reflections on long martini and a second wife, and the analysis of Communism and the arts. His answer was that the conservative viewer does not talk to them when they criticize someone, your goal feel compelled to respond.

The new design, color art and guided by a new logo made its debut in January 1996. E printed on cheap newsprint, not suitable for reproduction of color images that advertisers sought. In 1995, staff began working on a new design, giving the magazine a new look and new works of art, and especially the expensive glossy printing. A dealer in New York, was hired to give the viewer a presence in the capital of advertising in the nation. The problem, the administration estimates, the magazine was physical.

Then put a webcam near the keyboard Livestream Bird activities. Mr. Duduma was asked what "his" birds say if only they could communicate with them? A filmmaker and writer on art of the only weekly magazine in Latvia, Mr. Duduma decided to find out. He created a computer keyboard and outdoor pieces of bacon grease on each key. Added to each key screw his birds could provide enough pressure to push, and pecking fat.

This account of live birds, singing tweet messages "to the world. The keyboard is connected to a computer that sends the birds pecking activity in bold on its own Twitter account, @ hungry_birds. The hungry birds, attracted by lard (which gives a lot of energy to survive the bitter cold), land on your keyboard to chop the keys.

Am I to mark the entrance area to the "smell" of saliva as a marker terrotorial?. They did it on and off for about a month and last year the same. Go off on a tangent, but can someone tell me why blue tits that make their home in the box in my garden birds spend so much time picking at the entrance.
